Morning all. I don't know about you lot but I'm in a confident mood today, which will no doubt come across as over confidence to some, but with only one project on my planner between now and the new year I'm enjoying my free time and actually looking forward to Christmas and all the football.
Christmas isn't actually that long away and right after that we've got the January sales and if you believe what you read in the Mirror then Stoke are willing to part with £4mn. for Marlon Harewood and Martin O'Neill is, I'd imagine, more than happy to get back what he reportedly paid for the player.
But if Marlon goes to Stoke I hope and actually expect he will get a good reception from some when Stoke come to Villa Park in February. When I say some, it's just that the others won't be that bothered, but nobody will or should give him a poor reception. At the end of the day I fancy Stoke to be relegated and Marlon will do extremely well in the Championship.
Moving on to something that is not actually football, but just as interesting; strip clubs. Now, before anyone gets on my back about this, I'm talking about the type of strip club that employ women that earn huge sums of cash flaunting what they've got and from my experience, they all really enjoy it.
But the message from Petrov this morning is that Carew should go out to strip clubs more often and I think he may be right.
We all motivate ourselves in different ways and maybe that is his way - he should go lap-dancing more often. We don't worry about each other's private lives - it is what is done on the pitch that matters. - Stiliyan Petrov
Now, all I'm going to suggest is that Carew gets a poll put up wherever he is living at the moment, and orders them in; it'll be much more fun for him and if he wanted some company, I'd happily spend a few hours with him doing an interview for the blog.
But that's it from the papers this morning. Later is my prediction for Blackburn tomorrow night and with my confidence, you can pretty much guess what it will be now, but there will be a little bit more than three points in the post.
Aston Villa in Europe

Good idea, he would also be able to practice long range shootin
Stoke does seem his most likely destination! Just get what we can for him! Then sign somebody else to replace him!
To be honest Damian, i cant see anything less than three points tomorrow, apparently Santa Cruz is injured and Pedersen is out-of-sorts at the moment so that can only be good news for us right?
3-1 Villa - Carew, Gabby and Milner to score
mon has been saying we need another striker.
i am wondering if we sell harewood will he bring in 1 or 2.
doyle is top of the list he is a similar type of player to ashton however doesn't play 1 in 5 games a season.
but i do feel we need another speed merchant now that routledge looks like he is going to.
we do need at least 2 road runners on the pitch at all times.
I thought Petrov was suggesting that Carew take up lap-dancing himself.
Big John, Big John
Looks dubious in a thong
Etc.

I think we need two anyway! Doyle and A N Other and i'll be pleased! Another playmaker perhaps too!
Reply to philbob88:
A playmaker would be good!!
i would love to see an outragious bid for Teves or why not try and get the nservices of brazillian Ronaldo?hes up for grabs on a free at the moment so we cud afford to pay high wages for him...imagine big john carew up front with Teves or Gabby teaming up with Ronaldo!
Am i out of my depth here guys or does this seem realistic?
I believe it could happen.....just maybe.......
Or lets just go for Doyle!
ronaldo.
why?
are you trying to destroy my beloved football team!
tevez maybe will he come?
no
if your talking blue sky walcott or cole or ramsey but i reckon we will get a maximum of 2 players probably a striker doyle and a winger mcgready

Phil, Damien said he's in a good mood now don't go upsetting him by suggesting Milner is any good.
These are the type of games that worry me because I feel that Villa start to believe that they only have to turn up to win. But that confidence must be catching. Villa 2 Blackbum 1.
Good to see you back odysseynumberfive

Ronaldo is too old, too slow and wages too high.
Would like to see Villa offload players who wont get a game, Harewood, Routledge and Salifou (I expect the abuse!) and buy two strikers and a pacey midfielder. I would go for Doyle, Huntelaar as the new strikers.
Ronaldo is so far past his best that only his mum remembers that he used to be World Footballer of the Year! And any decision to sign him would be purely a commercial one! I doubt MON is that stoopid!!
Keef, it must be catching on, but come on, if you want be where we want to be, you have to be beating the likes of Blackburn and Wigan, and beating them comfortably too!
How dare you Keef! Im going to organise for you to have an arm wrestle with Salifou....
Its been known that once, a young Salifou had an arm wrestle with Jeremy Beadle..... Beadle never recovered!
Think about it!
my lad went to the MON forum last night and MON stated that its the striking dept that he will be looking at in jan,he wouldnt be drawn on any names, but when asked about heskey he lavished a lot of praise on him but also said it was all paper talk
I think - where it concerns the transfer market - Aston Villa has moved onto a higher level. Many here have noted that getting the attention of top rated players has been difficult because we had, amongst other things, no European football to offer. If we wanted a team full of internationals then O’Neill had to buy shrewdly and develop them himself. I don’t think that is still the case.
Lots of significant things have happened. First: `the UEFA cup is not the pinnacle but this season it has a lot of eye-catching teams in it. Second: we’ve just beaten Ajax in that competition and Ajax have won the Big Cup 4 times. Anyone who watched that match will have been struck by the tremendous atmosphere and support at VP that night Third: by common consent we are realistically noted to be the team most likely to break into the top four. Fourth: our position of fifth in the league is a consistent one and underscores our strength and status. Everyone now accepts that we will be a successful club among the successful clubs. (Let’s hope they’re right.)
You catch my drift. All this means that players who previously might have turned us down will now give us a second look.
Now comes the big question. Will Lerner and O’Neill take advantage of this and step up to the plate. If they fail to bring in at least one quality striker in the coming window – without a compelling reason for the failure – then the seeds of doubt will germinate. I have been deeply supportive of this administration and urged others to do the same. I love watching O’Neill and his team go to work and the last three years have made us all proud. I am personally very grateful. However, this current strike force cannot take us to the top without reinforcement.
Do they really have the ambition to take on the best? I think the answer is “Yes”. We will see.
Whats this MON forum everybody talks about?
Nice one churchil
Reply to Villa_Chris:
it was at the kingshurst labour club last night,it was for brmb and i think its being broadcast this fri
Oh right, cheers.
Was it just a one off or is it a monthly thing or somethin?
whe n he was asked about lerner, because as fans we dont know much about him as a person ,MON said he didnt know much about him either lol
Reply to Villa_Chris:
it was a one off i think
That what I love about O'Neill, hes not just a superb manager, he's also a top bloke. No wonder he's renowned for his motivation skills!
Reply to churchil:
Churchil for PM!!!
Reply to Villa_Chris:
he also said john robertson was the best player he played with, but hes useless now because hes fat and smokes
Sounds like a stand up, not a Q&A forum!!
Reply to Villa_Chris:
Thats the funniest thing you ever said!
according to my lad it was,but you dont really expect to hear anything juicy at these things
Reply to talusmanvillafan:
Sounds like William Gallas
Did anyone ask him about not bothering to defend corners?
Reply to Villa_Chris:
its on 1152 exta am this friday they do the phone in 6 till 7. Then at 7 they will replay the forum
Reply to keefvilla:
everyone seemed to skirt that question but i have since realized its not about not be bothered its a case of we have started to zonal mark so i.e not marking a man but marking an area
Yes I realise that talusman but it clearly doesn't work and Wigan could, probably should, have scored 2 or 3 goals from corners. Bloody worrys me.
it scares the life out of me aswell its not making the most of our assets laursen and cuellar carew barry all great in the air teams wouldnt get close enough in the box
Reply to talusmanvillafan:
Did you tell him i got set-pieces covered talusman?
Or did you not see my revolutionary idea yesterday?
Hmm... What is zonal? Can we not just stick the big lads against their big lads, and someone on the post, and equip Friedels goalie gloves with knuckle dusters! Just so they'll stay away when the big man comes to get a corner?
Its flawed obviously! I thought we could get Savage in as a test dummy!
james villa....ronaldo for free is not a bad bit of buisness at all...i know hes not half the player he used to be but even half the player he used to be is better then heskey, doyle and the hare put together...put MON and his team incharge of him and a new challenge (the prem) and you could see ronaldo re-born..
But yeah, i understand your comment "destroy my football club"...he is a bit of a headcase and there is a risk of him destroying team spirit!...but he will never come here anyway so lets just leave it!
so....kevin doyle. i suppose he is banging them in...could be a shout.
i also like the look of Miller at westbrom..Big, strong, pacey...would fit right into out squad aswell.
Or we could just send in some referees to be test dummie's because I cant stand the buggers!
Reply to keefvilla:
Keef, Clearly, some don’t favour zonal marking. You cited the Wigan game in support of ‘man for man’. I think it would also be reasonable to mention the goal that Ajax scored. When the zone breaks down it looks truly awful.
What’s interesting though is that, although the zonal system has been used since O’Neill came to VP (I think), criticism has only just emerged (I think). Which probably means it’s been working OK until now.
The other thing is that most other teams use man to man. So this is what Villa face when we have set pieces. Who has been the most recently successful team from set pieces?
Reply to maindog:
The thing is, I think Villa are at a stage now where they should be buying players, especially forwards, that are well know and proven at this level. I dont think we should risk buying someone who is of a lower standard e.g coming from a championship level side.
I would say someone like Martins, Owen, Defoe, Santa Cruz would be brilliant for us.
A bit off the topic here but im just wondering what ye guys think of the villa fan that ran to the press with the Carew story?
I would say it was stupid, tell your mates, not the press. I would be a bit more upset if it was 100,000 out of my back pocket though!
Reply to ak_27:
judas!!!!!
the guy who grassed must have got a few quid though
He was reported to be a season ticket holder. I just couldn't understand why a 'fan' would grass his up like that. Probably a bluenose.
Reply to maindog:
Miller is terrible...have you seen him this seson...not even MON could turn him into a player
Reply to maindog:
i think saying he is half the player he used to be is being kind.
he would be useless.
he would make the team a laughing stock.
if carew is going to clubs before games now he would be going back home with all sorts if ronaldo was at villa.
he would want a decent wage that we could pay to a decent player.
he would destroy our season.
enough said
We all should be watching strippers every week.
I will be so pissed off if we sign Doyle. Newcastle are up shit creek, lets offer them 8-9mil for Martins. Doyles asking price is about 7mil similar money.....i know which one i would rather have. Im interested to know what people are thinking about Barry and his average form so far this season? Has it all got to his head? Is he still not focused from the crazy summer? Does he care about Villa or is he just playing it out til January? I think Damian was spot on when he said that Sidwell showed us what we need from a midfielder, in that he came forward and scored a quality goal. I think it was almost criminal to keep Barry and turn our heads at 16mil (plus Finnan). Im not going to shut up about this either. If Sidwell plays well whilst GB is out how the hell will he get back in the team? Petrov has been a rock this season, Reo is playing the best football of his career....where does an out of form, seemingly disinterested, over hyped Barry fit in to the team?
if what you were saying leroy was true i would be overjoyed.
we could sell an ageing player for a massive sum and buy some younger talent.
however barry is not playing badly he is infact playing well.
when ever we are being pushed back with poseession barry is the outball and is the only cool head we have on the ball.
he can play both defensively and offensively and his versatility is often called upon during games.
he is unfortunately still a key player for us even though he isn't playing as well as last season.
Reply to james_villa:
Right, james. He gives us more options. If he's no good he wouldn't be playing in the national side. The good thing is that Villa are strong enough now for people to contemplate life without him. I think Chelsea, Liverpool or Man City might tempt him and O'Neill with a big price in the window. He fits in well with other quality players and the big spenders want him. I think he'll be gone in Jan.
How do I feel about that? Haven't decided yet.
Barry isnt even the third best midfielder at Villa this season so far. He has been yanked out of the last two internationals, and when he was subbed vs Kazakhstan we looked way better for it scoring 4 times!
Sidwell plays it pretty cool also. At Reading he was a horse. Ok, hes not as versatile as Barry, but he comes forward more, and drops back quite often also. The point im trying to make is that Barry has peaked. We will only get more than 18mil for him now if Man City come in for him with a crazy offer. I was saying the same thing in summer. We would be better served by a (hate to say this name yet again, De la Red) or Diego type. Barry is slow and is getting slower. He is crafty, yes, and he has a fairly pin point passing game, but he has little creativity and does not get forward to score goals. Once Bouma is back Shorey will be a full time sub and we wont need to play Barry at the back anymore. Another feather drops from his cap....
4 million for marewood thats gotta make barry at 18 seem a bargain
agreed paul take whatever from whoever offers it we are in a far better position to loose barry now than 6mths or so ago
Reply to keefvilla:
saliou is one of the best young players we have at villa and would be criminal to off load him, as for huntelaar the wages he would want would be far too high, and doyle just is'nt up to life in the PL,
