Ten goals. Nine of 'em ours. Cripes, DM!
The only niggle (here we go) will be the magnificent strike from Bentley. Own goal my peachy bottom. It whisted in as reminder to all the Spurs fans I've come to really despise this season that he's a class act that boy and if he leaves, it'll be a mistake.
Me and Mde de H struck gold and in one of the shoddiest estate pubs in Europe secured front row seats to what no one could have expected to be a particularly remarkable game. I had it down for a one a piece job with lots of hoofing and gawd knows what inbetween.
Ha - got that wrong. Fast flowing push and run. And a midfield that actually bossed. Wigan were awful. Well that's maybe unkind, they weren't incompetent just unmemorable. They came back a bit after about twenty five minutes, but it turned out to be one of those twitches dying bodies make in the movies even after being riddled with bullets.
No mileage in player ratings. Like women hastily heading to the maternity hospital, Tens all round.
Gomes wasn't asked much yet still managed to squeeze in a loony but not life threatening throw into the equation. A&E looked the business, Woodgate, clearly in the process of bouncing back underlined the love we have for him. Dawson was untroubled but looked as keen as mustard.
3MP's play was endlessly thoughtful. People talk of 'hold up play' and this was pretty much a masterclass. I wouldn't send that wardrobe on wheels Heskey for a newspaper. But Pete is the business. Big thumbs up from me.
Defoe. Proper striker, isn't he? Now, let's have it right, he wasn't competing against the finest back four in the world, but he did what he did. Determined, dangerous and dynamic. Defoe has been traveling towards this this World Cup for four years. Off the boil at Tottenham, simmering at Pompey and now fizzing and popping all over the hob back at White Hart Lane.
The real joy for me was the movement, distribution and brains in our midfield. Kranjcar was top quality. The Sarge at his very best. Huddlestone pretty naffing sexy at times. No hoofing. It was a pleasure to watch.
Wiganisters. We were Godzilla. You were Japan. BIOYC!

Now see what happened Harry. Beutiful girls = blistering game. Next time you better put a bird in goal to in your prematch tattle. If you had done that, Charner would not have Henryed that goal.
The Good:
I think that's pretty fair all round. Bentley's free kick was sublime - how could it be an own goal! Krankie was amazing and Keane had more impact this week than in many a game.
The cautious:
A proud moment for all of us - let's hope it doesn't go to our heads. We'll only have one performance like that a season so we need to be really careful how we follow it up. Villa will be altogether very, very different and we'll be away.
I still don't like Defoe - is that blasphemous?
PS can we signup that Wisdom geezer or is he still under contract for Albania?
After watching the match segment on MOTD last night...good grief, we could've easily scored well into the double digits! We caught a rebuilding Wigan team on a bad, bad day, but what a result nonetheless.
I have to say, my favorite highlight wasn't even one of the goals. Did anyone else see that pass Kranjcar hit? If you did, you know the one I'm talking about. Ball is knocked his way just over the halfway line, bouncing, and he strokes it first time with the outside of his right foot, had to be about 35 yards, with perfect curl on it to hit Defoe in stride as he runs off the defender. I had to pick my jaw up off the coffee table.
Obviously Defoe and Lennon were top, but Niko was awesome!!!The pass with the outside of the boot that checked back into the path of JD was world class. Why he didn't start against the arse etc I don't know... With the Modfather coming back, I think we can be v positive. Let's not play Keane eh?
Massive game against Villa to potentially put some daylight between us and fifth place!
Ba dum ba dum ba dum, Glory glory...etc!
I just watched the 2nd half again, Fuk we were good. Krankeman had a blinder, If there was any other way of showing PSB is wasting a position out there & goals too then I an't seen one yet & i don't rate Jenas either. Bentley's goal was a corker, just watching & waiting & hoping.....then OHH MY FUKIN GOD.... Ha ha ha brilliant. Defoe & azza Blud what can you say 'triffic' But as HH has already said 10's allround. Shouldn't single out anyone in a 100% team performance

Oh I saw that pass!
Awesome. Reminded me of one Joe Cole hit in the Champs league a while back. He good, let's always play him...

You make me sick.
Awesome display, pissed off I didn't go. Defoe done what he has threatened to do for a long time. We all know he is capable of this type of performance and he showed us yesterday. As for Lennon, direct, fast, and just brilliant. A Chrissy Waddle style performance from him yesterday! Good to see Woody back as well. Huddz and Wilson controlled things in the middle. Lets hope we can polverize some more teams like this.
We go through some good times and some tough times as Spurs fans but that performance made me proud to be a Lilywhite.
I must say i thought Krankys defensive work was worth more than a shout and a point too
Brilliant there yesterday. Love it when most of the crowd stays to the end, instead of sloping off early. "Glory Glory Tottenham Hotspur" ringing around the stadium after the final whistle. Last time I remember that was when we did Arsenal 5-1 a couple years back.
I was floating all the way home last night, still can't believe we scored 9. More than makes up for how crap I felt after the Stoke game!

I watched JD's interview on the Beeb site and was impressed. He's exciting me now. "Even after 5 goals, Joe (Jordan) said to me, 'Go on get another one'" He was focussed in his interview and he was focussed on his team - they're complimenting eachother not just as individuals but as a squad and this change in mind set is working wonders. What Arry did yesterday in addition to his psychological miracles, is simply play people in their best positions. It also helped of course that Azza was back and at his scintillating best.
Why no mention of Lennon, Harry? I know you're a fan of Bentley but when Lennon plays like he did yesterday Bentley can't have a look in.
my thanks go out to the spuds your team have won me 3500 pounds from a happy toon fan cheers lads

Shurely PSB & Jenas will have to warm the bench now?!?!
Reply to Bilbo_Spur:
Wasn't a deliberate omission, he had a blinder. I do feel there's room for both of 'em at The Lane though.
The big difference is of course, Lennon is ready to board the plane to South Africa.

Harry, totally agree with your sentiments re Bentley....cracking goal and I hope he stays. Defoe's finishing was somewhat awesome. Hope Redshnapps doesn't tinker with the team next week...
Reply to Poshspur:
So agree.
Arry made a huge blunder against the Arse. He went negative when they need to be attacked and Niko gives us a bit more flair.
I'm hoping Jean Arse will be shipped out in January and Jamie O brought back
Morning strangers; I just had to come here today with a comment after that performance
Absolutely blinding; I've been in shock ever since.
Dannyboy - 'we won 9-1'.
Mrs Dannyboy - is that good then?!' AAArrgghhh lol
Question - on yesterdays performance, when Modric is fit, where does he fit in? who makes way? ooohhhhhh DB gets controversial.
Reply to DANNYBOY:
Watcha cock.
Love the Mrs Dannyboy comment and can confirm the current Lady Onedave responded in similar fashion.
“Football is a simple game based on the giving and taking of passes, of controlling the ball and of making yourself available to receive a pass. It is terribly simple.” Bill Shankly could have stolen this sentiment from Arthur Rowe or Bill Nick. Yesterday Harry finally brought it to life by putting out a balanced side with every man knowing his job and doing the simple things well. Defoe and 3MP made the difficult art of forward play look easy. Krancjar and Azza provided the width and penetration that was so lacking against Sunderland. Thud and Wilson got hold of the ball and played it to men in lilywhite as did the entire defence. So Harry, please, please put the same side out against Villa - I beg you. It will break our hearts to see Jenas giving the ball away attempting yet another pass beyond his technical capability. It will break my TV seeing PSB with his head down steaming into another blind alley as the game takes place around him.

I liked it when Thudd broke the Mansion hoarding with that shot that fizzed past the right post.
Other highlights;
1.Defoe first was the best finish
2. Eric Edman being on Wigans side not ours
3. The balance and shape of the team
4. Woody being skipper
5. Bentley free kick, how much pace was on that?!
6. Lennon, unplayable
the list could go on & on & on
3MP? what's that stand for then boys?

At the game yesterday. Awesome stuff. Niko was the best player on the pitch (only slightly above everyone else, mind). Great stuff.
Fantastic result and fantastic performance. Not often that I feel happy at work on a Monday!
Kranjcar was fantastic. A few mazy runs and some sublime passing. I still think he would operate at his best alongside Palacios, but Hudd was excellent yesterday too.
I just think against the better teams, Kranjcar would offer so much more than Hudd alongside Wilson and would reduce the amount of running the Sarge would need to do as Krankie showed yesterday just how well he can track back.
When Modric is back, I think Hudd may have to be an impact sub. It would be a mistake to change the formation and push Modric behind Defoe with 3MP on the bench.
The only worry I now have is that Keane has had a rest and I would put money on him starting next week, possibly Jenas as well. I hope to god I'm wrong.
Reply to toddspur:
"I liked it when Thudd broke the Mansion hoarding with that shot that fizzed past the right post."
Whatever your opinion of the lad's all-around game, you have to admit that the sight of him winding up outside the box is always exciting. He certainly put his foot through that one. Did it even touch the ground before it caromed back off the hoarding? Definitely not a typical daisycutter.
Harry takes a great deal of stick for his media friendly wheeler-dealer style, but he was dignity personified in the post-match interview yesterday. He could have been forgiven for gloating but not a sniff of it, he was very gracious in his praise of Martinez and whilst fulsome in his praise of a sublime performance by the team you felt he didn't want to dwell on Wigan's misfortune.
On a different note, those who have bemoaned our purchases of 'Portsmouth cast-offs' are very quiet considering the outstanding games from all 3 yesterday.
Booo. Cant believe you conceded. Terrible lol.
I hate you all
Reply to silver_spurfer:
A very good point. The interview was probably the hardest thing Harry had to do yesterday, and I was wondering how he'd handle it. If nothing else, though, Harry usually knows how to strike the right tone. I agree that he was very classy and unpatronising, and I didn't get the sense that he was faking any of that.
Reply to Neverwalkingalone:
I heard Keane was due to come on as a sub, but Harry pulled him back after the handball because he was afraid Keane would kill somebody.
No visit from 'hammyhammer' today?

Clearly sense prevailed yesterday and Harry allowed us to play proper football. Two strikers, two wide guys, two central holders. it doesn't get any simpler but look at recent tactics and u'd wonder why we weren't doing it.
The big test comes when we get injuries and then stick the next best player in, often out of position. We would be better off playing a player who fits that position naturally than forcing Jenas/Keane into them.
A massive three cheers to the guys yesterday for a truly memorable performance, and a big thanks to Edman for his contribution. Its a shame Kirkland was playing so well or we would have easily broken all records.
to finish off a sublime Monday its good to know the scum are up against Chelski next, with no RVP to make it happen. Roll on villa

Having just cleared my head from a Blue Nun induced stupor, celebrating the Wigan result....I say bring on Villa! Mind you Martin O'Neill was in the WHL crowd and judging from the calculating expression on his phizzog, he may have a cunning plan...
I followed the score in an A & E, having fallen down a flight of stairs and almost.
It was a shame I left when I was discharged, after the cut to my head had been glued together. Had I stayed a bit longer, I would've seen the entire Wigan team arrive to be treated for concussion and shock.

The first time I saw tottenham at the Lane they won 9-0. I don't think they have netted as many in competative game, until yesterday. Twas a pleasure to watch. Lennon and Kranjcar were top class. We don't need Keane.
If only every Monday was like this
Reply to Zi-Dan:
I'd settle for 8-1 and the Monday being a bank holiday.
What are the odds we'll win our remaining games and reach 100 points?
In the midst of yesterday's goal-fest I was reminded of Jeff Stelling who, at the beginning of the season, remarked that Defoe was unstoppable, except by a member of the Essex Constabulary.
I bet Villa are feeling very nervous about Saturday!
I knew kranjcar was good when he was at Pompey, but watching the game again (and again) he really did have a masterclass!
I hope he can recreate that performance and if he does, that begs the question, what is his best position for us at the moment?
With JJ and Thudd not producing the goods cosistantly enough, do we have him or modders in the middle?
I would try:
Defoe
Keane/Crouch
Kranjcar-Modders-Wilson-Lennon
A&E-Woody(capt)-Dawson-Charlie
nice to see a complimentary article in the press for once.

From a Tottenham purists point of view, that's a bloody good deal.
There's far more to complain about in my half!
Reply to dunley:
I think it's horses for courses in the midfield. JJ's time is more than up, I'm afraid. Unless he somehow gets in the team and tears the league to shreds in the next six weeks, I think he's on his bike in January, especially if we capture Sandro or another central midfielder of that ilk.
Thud's been just good enough just often enough to stay in the mix. We're all familiar with his weaknesses, but he's produced far more good performances than bad in this campaign. Yesterday was another good one; a particular highlight being a 50+ yard rifle shot of a pass to Defoe in the first half that cut out the Wigan midfield entirely. Great stuff.
I think Kranjcar and Modric playing as a fluid and interchanging LW-LCM pair could be a delight to watch and potentially very effective. They're both known as flair players, but they both work their socks off when they're up for it. Modric is a fucking terrier, and, much like Lennon, I think the zeal he's developed under Harry for using his energy and pace to track back and disrupt opposition attacks has somehow escaped notice. So, yes, in the right situation, I would love to see the two Croats on the left side.
Good points there Longwell!
I think I just get frustrated with Thudd as he has so much in his locker, but far to often lacks the movement you require against fast paced prem midfields!
Still, probably not the time to bash him after such a great all-round performance.........

and we are level with those stinking goons after a good chunk of the season,he can't be all that bad,
his passing was exquisite yesterday,i know we had time and space, wigan were a beaten side,blah,blah...the boy is young and did good...and it's great to have someone that will actually shoot from 30 yards
kranjcar is pure skill and control,he keeps the F*CKING ball....praise be,

with lid on

Thudd always looks great when the opposition is poor but he was almost anonymous against the Arse.
He has tremendous ability and I would love to see him crack it but he really needs to put himself about a bit more.
with Keane

Maybe Arry will have a quiet word with M O'N next week

he might have to lift the lid and show MO'N who he is talking about

I would be nice to see him lose his rag one day and go steaming into tackles and stuff.
Reply to steve1987:
poor Eric will probably have to pay the lions share....really felt sorry for him
Reply to steve1987:
If is a massive word and so is but, but if he could learn to put himself about a bit he could be awesome.
I fear he may not progress
Reply to onedavemackay:
yeah i know,that is true,
wilson was also very shoddy against the arse,i'm pretty sure he gave the ball to fabregas for his goal
i just think thudd is worth sticking with, but as Noname said, next time you are at the lane, stick jenas in the dustbin on your wayout....
good singing from you at the lane ODM,must of been great to be there
Reply to steve1987:
yes that stepover was hilarious, fooled him like a kipper,
you should download the second half, from yesterdays thread link,if you can be bothered,it's free and worth watching....
Reply to onedavemackay:
There's a Chris Toy comic to suggest that this is the case, coming right up...

you know you got tonked, when the players start paying you back....
i think totteham players should do that if they lose,if they win or draw they can keep their cash, but lose and they cough up,
surely they can afford it these days....
I used to think playing Modric in the middle with Palacios would not only make us a bit lightweight, but also restrict Modric by giving him too many defensive responsibilities.
But now, if Kranjcar can continue playing like anywhere near yesterday's performance, like others, I believe him and Modric could wreak havoc interchanging on the left side. With Lennon on the right, Palacios patrolling the centre, Huddlestone in reserve and perhaps another tough tackling midfielder to bring in, it's looking like one of the best midfields for a long time. It has everything.

Sadly, I was not allowed to go having been roped into doing some blathering charity stuff that I apparently agreed to ages ago.
As for Tommy I do think he's worth sticking with and I'm glad Arry is giving him a run but I think the non genius that is Jenas has been given enough chances and should be moved on to Pompey or Hull as soon as possible.
Reply to TMWNN:
How about this :
Azza - Wilson - Tommy - Niko
Modders
JD
I want to join Harry in the "Let's keep Bentley" campaign. If he had a decent run in the team I think we'd see some player.
One highlight for me was Kirkland on his knees banging the ground in frustration. HILARIOUS!!!!!!!!!
Reply to onedavemackay:
Like it. As Todd pointed out, there are so many options when everyone is fit, and if Redknapp can bring himself to leave out PSB and Jenas, he'll give us more than half a chance.
Reply to TMWNN:
yep I like that very much indeed
Reply to TMWNN:
If Arry is brave enough we could go a long way.
Reply to TMWNN:
That has the making of a really fluid midfield
Unlike JJ Thudd is young and as mentioned is still worth perservering with, but certainly not first choice on the team sheet!
It show's how far we have come that we can generally agree on the first team and with a couple of Arry inspired signings, we really will be a team to fear!
I for one can't wait for Villa and The woolwich have to play Chelski!
I didn't think it was that good.
If you took the goals out there was nothing in it.

Bog off Ringo what do you know? You weren't even the best drummer in the Beatles................
I for one am a huge fan of Kranjckarrrreyare the man has two of the best feet in the league and as his performance on sun showed should be a must for a start every game even at the expense of PSB who for my money was and has been shite this year!!! Jesus if crouch could only learn to go for a header without fouling his opponent we could prob win 3 or 4 every week get rid of Pav he couldnt hit a barn door at the minute and some mon is better than none we should hang on to Bentley I think he is a star in the making given the proper guidance which I think he'll get with Harrry at SPURS!!!!!!!!

LOL My nomination for comment of the day
Was that Wilson's best performance this season ?
I loved it when Bentley was fouled outside the box. I was really hoping and wishing for him to take the kick. When he hit that shot it was pure magic and i was so happy for the lad. That must have built his confidence somewhat....just what he needed. Pass the mustard.

I also thought wilson was awesome yesterday - back to his best, his form has dipped this season and his interviews suggest some doubts in his mind about the game after his brother's death.
Hopefully he has found his mojo again and what we saw yesterday was more like 'our wilson'.
That performance was just was the doctor ordered after the past few weeks - plenty of round pegs in round holes. We need to push on - we've a ground and new dynasty to build you know
Did you see we have put WHL or whatever we end up naming the new ground forward for the world cup stadiums?

Yes I think it's expected to be one of the World Cup venues
