Another win may just prove all too much
Good morning fight fans.
What a depressingly threadbare season so far this is. More points accrued than lost. Allegations of financial improprieties against the goodly and sainted Redschnapps dropped. Blimey, even Jermaine Jenas has scored.
By contrast, Liverpool are basking in crisis. Even West Ham's negotiations with Primark for shirt sponsorship have halted due to their impending relegation commitments. And Portsmouth are literally hogging the Loser's Limelight.
Something needs to be done to restore the balance. To me there is only one safe course of action open to us, the currently inert mob dawdling around with unlit torches.
Arry out, Hughton in.
Here's my team for today then. I suggest a goalkeeper. No point on dwelling on specifics. Suffice to say we need one, kick off is at three and a decision has to be made. Cudicini has had his reputation dented by the ridiculous, schoolboy error type goals conceded at Bolton, but I feel his confidence isn't completely undermined so I'd start with him.
The back four is a tricky area. One must bear in mind that the less continuity here, the greater the burden placed upon the goalie will be, so it's important to look just beyond how this might only upset our players in front of them.
So, the first thing I'd do is move Corluka from wherever he played last time, rest King, bring in a possibly not quite match fit Dawson and see if at all possible the fourth man could be comprised of someone playing entirely out of position.
On to the midfield. This will simply be a case of praying for certain players to make a no show. Thankfully, the classy Modric is still absent and we won't have his inventiveness to cloud matters. An obvious pairing is Huddlestone and Jenas. With any luck, Jenas will scurry around like a lunatic to no effect, other than to occasionally lose possession and Tommy will simply opt to make it to full time without getting his shirt muddy.
Krancjar is a wild card. One or two performances have showed some genuine desire. I'm prepared to overlook this naivety and trust he soon embraces the fact that players only come here to damage their profile and ensure they avoid International duties. Bentley is the banker of course. He could score three and he'd draw boo's. We desperately need to get the fans booing again.
Strikers. Defoe is a pace setter here. Shows all the signs of having a belter of a season and then executes a memorable 'shoots self in foot' manoeuvre by stamping on a Pompey player. Textbook imbecility. That leaves us with the intermittent Keane and 3MP. Keane knows how not to make an impact so there's hope there. Crouch is less reliably inconsistent and but can in fairness, turn in a thoroughly, 'not quite' performance when the mood suits.
1-2 Stoke. Enough is enough.

On my way to WHL. COYS.
A must win game for us
This doing well thing must be a double edged sword for yourself HH. I've noticed with increasing Spurs performance there has been a decline in people with anything to say.
Do i yearn to have the dark days back ?
Not a chance. We need a new mindset to get used to this. Perhaps really minor nitpicking should be the order of the day.
Maybe todays game will deliver.
blimey.......woody starts....hope he is up to the hustle and bustle......good to see him back
sounds like this from the radio....

corluka woodgate bassong bae
lennon palace tommy kranjcar

These are strange days indeed.
I've decided to steer my bemusement in another direction, SS News.
In particular MERSON, now there is a face you'd like to drive your car over for 20 minuets or so.
Of all the ex-pros WHY Paul the Tool? care in the community perhaps, maybe it's equal rights every t.v station have to employ at least one top draw wanker?
BTW anyone for top of the league today 5.0.

Team confirmed on SS.
This looks like the season we see if Thud has what it takes,a very good player but will he be a great? not 100% myself. Time will tell.
Reply to andyto65:
You are worse giving SSN the ratings, Sky TV are anti Spurs and have been for years all that are on there are a shower of cunts to put it mildly

I think Le Tiss is alright.
We should play all our aces. 3 points is there for the taking and we should grab them with both hands! Resting players for other games sounds like a smart strategy but right now I'd be happy taking the points. We have Everton on a horrible fixture list for them in the Carling Cup and then a good few day before the scum.
Irrespective of actual league position, they have the highest goals scored, the best goal difference and have games in hand; perceived illusions of superiority are still a bit premature: we could go all out and still take 'nil point'. Grab these points now and keep the pressure on those below us; Villa just dropped two and Citeh did the same last week. We need to take maximum points from those we can beat and we will not do that by starting to take the piss!
woody didn't last long then.....didn't see it...but knock on the head....
Reply to Longwell:
He is a cunt, and if they were scarce he`d make two
should be a stroll.....some nice football with lennon and kranc outwide...gome untroubled but stoke can always score though....
keane and crouch need to pull their finger out and finish the job.....
amazing clearance from beattie...
Hope its not one of those games
Reply to Longwell:
Le Tossier is the biggest anti-spurs di*k I have ever had the misfortune to view on SS, he has been anti-spurs since we decided not to sign him but thats a story for another day!
Hope Arry gives them all a right rollicking at half time.....
really frustrating half of the most pedestrian and sloppy football
(with the exception of Lennon)
We need to get the finger out and secure the points quickly in this second half!
Reply to bassongsdong:
You have seen the punditry stylings of one Paul Merson before, have you not?
Reply to Longwell:
I have, but my point is Le Tossier is a di*k who has never played for Arseh*les, Merson is a given along with that beaut Smith.
Reply to bassongsdong:
Le Tiss might be a dick at times but Merson is a new bread of super C^nt.

On the replay you can see him clearly butting the ground.
Fantastic clearance.

What a shower of sh*t we are!
Looks like the blog will be slightly livelier for a bit, then.
That was an even more blatant robbery than Hull last year.
Hate to say it, but beginning to understand how Arsenal whingers felt. Some of those tackles were outrageous and not enjoying the rise of these anti-football teams who do all they can to disrupt the opposition playing football. I suppose in a sense they've always existed and it's a credit to our style of play that I'm feeling that way.
And we need to be smart enough to get around it. But still, can't help but feel the football world would be a better place without the Boltons and Stokes of this world.
Bah.
Pav could'nt strike a match never mind a fu*king ball, he could learn a thing or two about finishing from a ONE DARREN BENT!
Losing at home to Manure is believable but Stoke??? What is wrong with the manager when he cannot get the team to beat shite like that
what the fuck.....
so disappointing, its at the lane FFS....
can't explain it except that was classic spurs, didn't seem like anyone wanted to win the game.....
when we really needed to show how big our balls are we don't,
what can you do but take the blow in the guts and move on,
at the fucking lane, annoys me the most....
Pedestrian, sloppy, uninterested, lacking urgency and unlucky.
HH's team talk was almost perfect.
That was like the dark old days all over again.
didn't deserve a win anyway..
taking Robbie off was a mistake... might not have been playing well but at least he's creative...
Crouch was shite...
Kranjar was worse than shite..
Stoke, like Bolton, are a horrible, horrible team....
we've got our Tottenham back...

don't agree with that....can't all be nice looking...
no chock for me, they loose today.
missing worldclass attacking midfielders
are so stupid,stupid and stupid.
It can never last in the long run, thats why
Arsenal will win next week, and we will again
end in no mans land, behind top four, and probably
also out of the secondhand non interesting place
so they can play euro football next
season.
thank you to harry redsnapps for envoy the drop
last year, but his love for his own type of players are to much, and destroying in the long run. He buys the wrong players, sorry.
also before, the wrong russian was bought, who got the right one, yes, correct Arsenal.
They, Manch U, Liverpool and few more teams are
sorry to say it much, much better, and more clear in their management.
We saw today against a very primitive Stoke
team, that we are simply not good enough.

Bad management, it is the only answer. He has not got enough about him to be able to get the team beat the likes of Stoke at home.

Now we have to beat the ar5e away to attone for 3 stupid points dropped.

This was the Spurs of old; nowhere near enough imagination in the middle and front players none of whom look on form.
Harry's headline post looked less like irony and more like genius the more the game went on.
We look like a team destined for 7th place.

Unfortunately Stoke did a job on us today. Anyone else notice how they closed our fullbacks down when in possesion stopping our passing game. We needed a centre mid to take control today. It didnt happen. For all those calling for another wilson in centre mid this is why it wont work, we need someone who can create. Thudd didnt step up today, was glad when Jenas came on much to my amazement.
Not sure why there is all the negativity, we dominated the match and should have won by 2 clear goals at least. Defoe was badly missed, without him we don't have a real goalscorer in the team but we were very unlucky to say the least, their keeper was man of the match.
Lennon going off after we'd used our subs was unfortunate but we still looked more likely to score than Stoke even with 10 men, has to be put down as one of those days.
All the fickle fans slagging off Harry should just go support another team. Idiots!

Sorry Nick, that was just an exclamation. i was agreeing with you, we should be dispatching teams like this, but Arry i think put out what many would consider to be our best team out today, they just could not score and we carried too many passengers (The Hud, PSB and 3MP).
Well thats simplified things.
Beat Arsenal at Emirates to maintain any hope of a top 4 finish or dont and concentrate on getting the carling cup.

glad the odds put me off.
had defoe not been a petulant little boy last week we'd have won more comfortably last week and this week.
next neek is a biggy... COYS
Have just got back from the game and have to sadly say we are no top 4 club on to-days performance.Defoe has a lot to answer for with his ban,Corluka was beaten at will,BAE was at fault for the goal,Hud was a shadow of himself, Bassong and Daws were worthy of their place while Crouchy at least tried,Keane deserved to go off and Pav is no twenty goal a season man.
Whilst it was adispointing result, the players are the only ones to blame. We had enough chances to end the game before they nicked it. Also after Harry saying we had lost our soft edge, we were kicked around for large portions of the game, and the ref could have been a bit more liberal with the bookings - but thats no excuse for us to lose to what is in essence a championship team. We missed Defoe, Modders, and now missing Lennon - getting a result next week is getting tougher by the day..............
And as for Pav getting slated, it's hard to get form if you only get cameo appearances once a month. I feel sorry for the guy
Reply to DesertSpur:
I mean a disappointing result
Saw very little of the game but, from what commentary I heard, we spent periods dominating but squandering chances. Were Keane, Hudd and Crouch off-form? I suppose that not scoring goals is at least some evidence of that.
The longer the game went on with us wasting opportunities, the more I sensed a Stoke win. Still, I kept telling myself that this is the new Spurs. We're patient now. We no longer read bad omens into setbacks. If we didn't score this time, we'll score the next; or the next. A bit like Woolwich do. Chance after chance after chance, and then, finally, the goal.
Sadly, it didn't. Our cause wasn't aided by too many reckless tackles from behind; and too much pushing, shoving, kicking, lungeing. Having survived Delap we still had to cope with the physical nature of the contest, and it was clear we were tiring.
So, we lost. Best pick over the bones, get what meat of learning is to be had from them and move on. In interviews, Redknapp will tender his excuses; and Tony Pulis, even in triumph, will do what he always does and turn his gaze laterally away from the interviewer and into the distance, as if observing traffic.
Shame about Woodgate, but Bassong and Dawson seemed able enough. Looking forward to Modric returning.
Reply to 9__37:
While I agree with most everything you say I would quietly argue that we are a long time in the Prem and Stoke yes Stoke was the opposition, we cannot be on a learning curve with kick-all teams forever. The only way to quieten teams like that is to put one in the net, they then have to come out and play for a result. We failed to do this today and that has been our downfall for years.
Harry Redknapp lost us this game today with his shit selection of players!
First off, why pick Woody to start when all he's done is complete a training ground friendly! Stupid decision which bit him on the arse after 13 mins. Start Daws who was excellent BTW.
Secondly, Playing Thudd alongside Wilson is an away game tactic! Everyone knew Stoke would sit tight and grind out a 0-0 so the need for a attacking CM to make some penetrating runs was obvious!! Jenas!!
Thirdly, Keane is a useless waste of space and why he persists with him is anyones guess! What did he do all game? off pace, bad positioning, ineffective and generally POOR! Pav was superior all round.
HR is a Clown of the highest order, these are simpleton decisions and he balls'ed them up... I weep for the future with Harry playing his 'Favorites' week in week out.
BALLS

anyway agree about the woodgate decision, but harry isn't a clown......and he has earn't this season for sure.....whatever happens
I'm not happy either, but today was one game, not make-or-break. If we rode our luck a bit last week, today was the turn about. On the plus side, Villa and the Mackems dropped points. We are still well in the mix.
oh yeah,
lennon looked like our best player out there,
shame he went off down the tunneland left us a man down, hope he is going to be alright for the goons.....
Reply to Dumb Dumb:
Woody has played 2 practice matches as far as I'm aware. When is he supposed to get game time then? FYI his injury was unrelated previous fitness issues.
Hudd is usually more effective in home games where we have more possession and need more creativity, the problem for him was that no-one aside from Lennon made any runs to penetrate Stoke's defense.
I agree Keane was poor (again) today but who would you have played instead? Pav and Crouch is not an effective partnership and Defoe is unavailable (as is Gio) so who should have played?
If we'd have won today we would have been joint top so Harry must be a really crap manager. We were world class before he arrived as manager!
Let's keep things in perspective, we have made a massive improvment since Harry arrived at the club, were unlucky today. I for one trust that he knows where we need improving and will address those areas asap.
Reply to SeattleSpursGuy:
Same here. We have not looked completely convincing in the league since the battering of Hull, really. Today the worm turned, and we weren't good enough to overcome bad luck and bad tackles.

How is selecting a fit Woodgate who's come through reserve games any sort of gamble? Is Redknapp supposed to be able to see into the future and realise that Woody's going to head butt the ground within the first quarter of an hour?
Keane wasn't great, but neither was he terrible (and I'm by no means a fan of his). Pav did the square root of fuck all when he came on - not that he had to much work with - so where your 'superior all round ' comes from I've no idea.
The only point I'll give you any credit for is the Huddlestone one.
It appeared that the groundsman had layed the entire middle of the pitch with landmines. No player from either team wanted to go anywhere near it until Jenas came on, far too belatedly.
And you can't moan at Redknapp for having favourites when he subbed both Keane and Thudd anyway - how does that stand up as an argument?
I'm never sure how good the quality is from the moody 2 pixel squared feeds a lot of you watch the games on, but it would appear they're pretty shabby.

i didn't say i agree with them, they were just well put from another point of view, why don't you read some of my other posts,i'm not a hater...
i would of picked dawson because he was ready earlier, just my opinion....
sorry i live in devon so can't get to the lane...
i thought keane and crouch didn't hold the ball up or do anything in paticular.....
tommy,jenas,wilson....same old,same old....who else have we got.....
I'm surprised nobody is talking about Lennon. He had a brilliant match, but then limps off the pitch and leaves us with 10 men. WTF? He wasn't on a stretcher, so he had to be capable of at least standing in the goal box for 10 minutes?
I think we are going to see some very negative comments from 'arry about this as he looked as angry as I have ever seen him when Lennon went down the tunnel.

If we do not reach the top 4 this season Modric and Palacius will be on their way and we are back in the same s**t cycle. We do not have another season with Man City etc spending big
Reply to KOJAC:
To be fair Mr. Kojac, that was my balls-up by replying to you rather than the one you replied to, if you know what I mean....
Dawson's great at heading a ball out of defence, but I'd pick a fit Woody over him given the choice. He's much more of a leader of men.
The truth is that without Modders we're lacking a bit of spark in the middle. Thudd and Jenas are the same player. They look great coming off the bench or in one-off games, but as soon as they're looking like a guaranteed pick for the manager they have games to make him wonder what he ever saw in them in the first place. Consistency is a dirty word to them.
At the end of the day Stoke are a fucking horrible team who revel in their 'anti-football' ways. Honestly, if they despise the game that much I don't know why they don't just sack it all off and set themselves up as a rugby team instead. The goalie was time-wasting from about the 20th minute, which would have been the ideal time for the ref to give him a yellow. He didn't, and so he just carried on doing it all game.....
Their fans are fucking noisy though.

Great post FB4. How can anybody criticize the starting of Woody ahead of Dawson?
The guy is one of the 4 or 5 best defenders in the league when healthy - and he was perfectly healthy until his moment of absolute brilliance, where he put his face in the path of Fuller's foot to flick away a sure goal. That has to be one of the best defensive plays in the entire premiership this season. He was noticeably groggy when he left the patch.
If Dawson is in the game there, he'd be standing at the top of the goal box with that stupidified look on his face, while another of his marks runs in alone behind him to tap the ball into a vacated goal.
This is the writeup on the play from the match report:
"STOKE. Actually magnificent defending from Woodgate. Delap's throw lobbed back into the box by Diao, Etherington drilled a volley that deflected off Kranjcar and was heading for Fuller at the far post, Woodgate dived in and flicked the ball away - taking a whack in the process."

They are both are under contract for at least another 2-3 years so we will only sell them if we get an offer we cannot refuse, I don't believe either player are the type to force a move by being difficult, but perhaps I'm naive.
@fatbackfour....
no doubt that woody is the first pick.....
you were there and yes i did lose my feed for about 15/20mins.....but at the beginning i thought we looked pretty good as usual, with kranc and lennon kind of running the game....but we couldn't make it count...
i always blame the strikers if we don't score....especially keano..
surely the stats say we should of won that game but we didn't...
you're right about modric,he is our best player....the eternal tommy/jenas question....but we don't have anyone else...
you got to hand it to stoke and pulis,if you ask me and their fans are fucking great.....i think its unfair to call them anti football....as i said earlier we can't all be sexy, rich and good looking and they did us over....

A certain Robbie Keane comes to mind!
Reply to samuraispur:
That crosses my mind, too. Except I think the character of these particular players is made of different stuff to your average PL mercenary. But that's probably just be me seeing life through my special Spurs goggles, through which my club appears beautiful, and should do to anyone who values football beauty (which, of course, is plain daft).
I'm still inclined to think that, with the dollar on the skids, the American-backed clubs may go into decline due to forces outside their control. There can't be that many millionaires left in the Gulf willing to sink money into PL clubs, especially when those clubs are already heavily in debt. Liverpoo don't even have our squad depth (much to Benitez' shame), and we're in such good financial shape (at the moment) that we're proceeding with a new stadium.
Even so, for me, too, this sense of urgency - of this season being the 'last chance saloon' to break into the Top Four - won't go away. But it's a long season and the unexpected can happen.

I thought Crouch was unlucky today, had 2 or 3 very good efforts saved by Simonsen.
Keane is a bit of a concern, it's not even as though he's missing chances he just is not getting any. One decent effort today after being played in by Palacios but other than that he was nowhere to be seen.
I thought Palacios looked back to his old self today, timing his tackles and passing well. Lennon had his best game for a while as well.
Even more concerned about the Ar5e game now, esp with Lennon, Modric and Defoe out, our 3 most dangerous players.
REDKNAPP MUST GO
ENOUGH IS ENOUGH

Frustrating. VERY frustrating. Missed a cracking chance to go 4 clear of the Arses.

Harry is a disgrace for trying to persuade Lennon to go back on the pitch while injured, he has no interest in the player's safety.
I have to know; who is PSB and 3MP?
Reply to churchill:
Keane = pointy shouty bloke
Crouch = 3 metre Peter
Reply to Pileovjunko:
The Arse never win anything fairly they always cheat somewhere along the line. They even cheated to get in to the top flight in 1918 so all of their League Championships and Premier League wins can be discounted.
Of course their trophy winning days are now long gone and they are mighty only in that they have a mighty arrogant opinion of themselves.
Reply to onedavemackay:
That and they have some of the ugliest players and fans ever to have walked the planet.
Reply to 2DayArry:
Thanks. You're a mensch.
well said ODM,
and of course they will be upping and moving off somewhere else soon enough.....who knows where...?
its crouch, hes the reason, a striker who CANT score goals at prem level, whats that? 1 in 17 games now, total shite, if its some team ranked 123 in the world he can score, i knew this would happen , i dreaded him being signed, strikers that cant score are no more use that a no armed goalie, fucking lanky goofy twat
With Lennon out this is a chance for Bently to come in and play his socks off and show Harry what he is made of.Pav was given the same chance yesterday but fluffed it,we will take a loss on him, lets hope Woddies injury is not his groin as he is a must for us.Daws is a whole hearted player and i hope he keeps his spot
King not fit again! It is time for Harry to pick a backline that has a good chance of been fit most weeks,King great for the bench but a backline needs to train together as a unit.Priority this window a no nonsence centreback.

When Lennon has a great World Cup and he will he will be off as well.
lots of possession, created chances and needed to take an early one to force them to come out and try to play(a little). they defended resolutely and beattie and fuller worked tirelessly though fuller was allowed to take the piss for their goal. less fancied away teams have been playing in this way since well forever and every so often will nick one like yesterday, lennon's retirement did aid their cause. H will have us primed for next week, A*se are a fine team and in an unparallel universe we could poss enjoy watching them, they will spank the spammers today but we will put it up to them big stylie make no mistake about that, shame the little rushkin a*sebandit won't be wearing white(with yellow trim)because he does look rather good but c'est la vie. keep the faith, Super Spurs.
