We're in the money

Monday, 28 September 09, 08:36 AM · Comments(14)

O, how Mr. Wenger must hate the fact that the Arsenal Financial reports are made public. Showing that we made a record profit of £35million last year I can just hear some fans now..."£35million! Profit! and we spend none of it!" Blah blah blah. Yes, I know, we should spend some, but I'd rather have a boss who is frugal than one willing to splash stupid money on stupid players who come in with stupid egos and make the dressing room a stupid place to be. You might have guessed it, but I think that would all just be stupid.

After that, there was some other stuff about making money with the Highbury developments and TV revenue and ticket sales from longer runs in cups and stuff but, as my bank manager will testify, money issues bore me, and I prefer not to have to think about them.

So I won't.

In what must be the first time since 1943 we have managed to make it from a match on Saturday til nearly Tuesday without any new injuries (though Eduardo's mysterious disappearing act on Saturday is slightly concerning - are him and Rosicky actually the same person? Have you EVER seen them on the pitch at the same time? No, seriously, have you? Ask anyone, my memory sucks!).

Theo has revealed that he has his engine revved and is roaring to go against Olympiakos on Tuesday night. I suspect he will have to place it in park and take his place on the bench, only to be unleashed with three minutes to go when the game is safe.

There has been some rumblings/confusion over the whole Vela/Xerox (I know that's not what they're actually called, but it's what they're called in my world) transfer thing, but I'm pretty sure they only ever wanted him on loan. Those football sages who are Goal.com are convinced that the fact that Vela has been restricted to one appearance in the Carling Cup this season might sway his desire to leave. Personally, I reckon the fact that he almost had his ankle shattered while playing for Mexico and was only fit by the time West Brom came to town might have had more to do with it, but hey, what do I know. They're the professionals.

Vela won't be going anywhere, and while I know he should be getting more game time if we want to keep him happy, according to FIFA 09 in three years he'll be worth £35million and the world's best striker so I think we'll keep a hold of him. Seriously though, last year was his first real season at Arsenal, and if you think he'll leave due to lack of games then you have to think the same of Ramsey and quite a few others. I'm fairly confident Vela will be an Arsenal player for many years to come.

Am I rambling more so than usual today? I feel like I am. Probably had something to do with the screaming match I had with a debt collection agency who think I should pay a debt I have no recollection of solely on the basis of a letter they sent me saying I owed someone money (actually, it's been four, but it's also been four times that I've asked them to clarify what the hell the debt is). As a result, my head is more fuzzy than usual, which is a shame as I was writing this blog in my head on the bus on the way home and it was going to be legendary.

We all know that we only have two more games to go before a dreaded Interlull, but as I said on Jamrock's blog earlier today, this is one Interlull I won't mind too much as myself and Garantia shall be celebrating both our birthdays in a haze of happy smoke in Amsterdam for a week.

Bliss.

I've also managed to make a big whoopsie with the rota in work. In my haste to ensure I used as few holiday days as possible for the trip, I arranged to work this Sunday so I could take Wednesday off. Only at 5am on the way to work today did I remember that  we play at 1.30pm on Sunday, so I'm now trying to talk the other staff into starting earlier so I can get away in time for the match. Is that cruel? Do I care? I don't think I do.

And on that note, I'm off to take a chill pill.

Til tomorrow

I knew it was too good to be true...just doing my reading of blogs now (which I do after I write mine so I can't be accused of plagarism, tho how you'd know I didn't read them before writing mine I don't know) and I see on Tales from Gillespie Road that Bendtner is out due to being in a car crash.

Proof, then, that there truely isn't a god, as if there was, there would have been no way Ronaldo would have walked away from his smash while Bendtner ends up injured.

Thankfully, he wasn't injured, but as no-one else was involved and he simply left the road, you have to wonder if playing on the wing is starting to seriously mess up his brain....stay wide, stay wide, o shit, a tree!

Did you know that Xerez is the Sheery producing region in Spain?

It's pronounced Herreth (phlegmy 'h'), hence our word Sherry.

...oh, you did.

...Ok.

=D

It's just dawned on me that tomorrow night we could very well see Cesc, Arshavin, Rosicky, Van Persie and Eduardo all start togther for the first time...how drool-worthy is that! =D

That's some team...Don Vito in goal, Song protecting our new wonder centre halfs, Cesc & Rosicky pulling the strings with Arshavin, VP & Eduardo up front...who cares how many we concede, with that team we could outscore anyone at a rate of about 3-1!

I'm not saying we should buy the best players at whatever price and do a Real Mardid but somewehere along the line we need to reinforce the future superstars squad with very good players especially if we lack world class quality in a certain position aka CDM or CF in my opinion.

I'm sure people will disagree with me but no team (not even brilliant Barca)can get rid of 3 players in the same slot (Flamini,Gilberto,Diarra) and expect to win trophies. Song is still work-in-process and with Denilson's injury I think the CDM slot could be the Achilles heel of this team.

I believe in Prof Wenger's philosophy of making stars rather than buying them but there needs to be a balanced approach towards this noble goal.

I'm...

I agree totally that we still need a defensive midfielder especially as Song will be at the ACN in Jan/Feb. 8)
